South Oxfordshire District Council apologised for any inconvenience the heat may have on bin collections

Public services may be affected as temperatures continue to soar with waste collections being delayed.

While crews have been collecting rubbish, it is possible work will "stop early" because of the heat, South Oxfordshire District Council said.

Residents have been asked to leave their bins out for two days after their scheduled collection if they had not been emptied.

The district includes Didcot, Henley, Thame and Wallingford.

The council apologised for any inconvenience on social media, external but said it would aim to catch up with its scheduled collection.

South Oxfordshire said the move would also affect collections within the Vale of White Horse District Council, which was offering emergency accommodation to rough sleepers due to the very hot weather conditions.

According to the Office for National Statistics, an estimated 149,100 people were living in South Oxfordshire in 2021.

Cherwell District Council said it had no plans to suspend any of its services, had briefed all staff about the conditions and was providing employees with water and sun cream.

Oxford City Council said it was currently running all services but said the hot weather was "very challenging" for its collection operatives.

It asked its residents to be "mindful" of the crews in the heat and ensure bins were out ready for collection.
