A council-run car park has become the fifth in Oxford to go cashless.

Headington car park will only take debit and credit cards or mobile app payments from Monday.

Gloucester Green, Oxpens, Worcester Street and Summertown car parks have already stopped taking cash.

In 2021, the city council announced plans to make all its car parks cashless, predicting it would save about £12,000 a year.

Councillor Louise Upton, cabinet member for planning and healthier communities, said: "All of those in the city centre are now cashless and we have started to change those that are in our district centres to cashless operation.

"Most users already pay for parking by card at the pay machine, through our pay-phone provider... it makes good economic sense then as a way for the council to reduce its administrative costs whilst not causing inconvenience to users."
