The John Radcliffe Hospital hopes that people will be able to store their bikes under cover near the main building

An Oxford hospital has submitted plans for new cycle shelters in three different locations.

Managers at the John Radcliffe Hospital hope that people will be able to store their bikes under cover near the main building.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has applied for a site area measuring 95 m sq.

Difficulties parking at the hospital have previously prompted complaints from both staff and patients.

The loss of 136 parking spaces also let to concern from some residents, with Oxfordshire County Council suggesting car parking provision was already oversubscribed.

Changes to cycling provision come amid plans to add seven new elective theatres to the hospital, with one of these set to be built over existing car park one.

There are a number of cycle routes that serve the hospital.

Covered cycle parking currently exists outside the Heart Centre and West Wing entrance, in car park 3, and under the West Wing.

New developments would take place on existing hardstanding areas and bike stands.
