An 87-year-old woman died when the car she was driving hit a fallen tree.
The crash on the B4526 near Crays Pond in Oxfordshire happened at about 17:25 GMT on Tuesday after several trees came down in the area during Storm Henk.
Thames Valley Police said the woman had been driving a red Smart Forfour near the junction with Eastfield Lane.
The force has referred itself to the police watchdog as it had received a report about the fallen tree about 90 minutes before the crash.
It said officers had been dealing with a number of similar reports about trees around that time and had asked the Independent Office for Police Conduct to look into the matter.
Sgt Dominic Mahon said the force's thoughts were with the woman's family, who are being supported by specialist officers.
Police have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.
Also on Tuesday, a man in his 50s, from Bath, died when a tree fell on his car in storm winds.

The air ambulance also attended but despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene.
