Properties in the centre of Oxford lost electricity for more than 14 hours following a power cut.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said more than 80 customers lost power in the Jericho area at about 02:10 BST on Sunday.

It said it took some time to fix the fault because of its location on its underground network.

Engineers had to drill through hard concrete to reach the problem, the utility said.

A company spokesperson said: "We would like to apologise to our customers who have been affected by the power cut in Oxford.

"Our engineers are working hard to restore power as safely and quickly as possible."
