A person has died following a fire at a house that broke out in the early hours of Friday morning.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said crews were sent to the blaze on Franklin Road, Headington, Oxford shortly before 02:00 BST.

Thames Valley Police said a man in his sixties had died, with another adult and a child also injured in the fire.

Police said the fire had now been extinguished, and was not being treated as suspicious.

Officers, along with one fire engine, remain at the scene.

At its height seven fire engines attended the incident.

No nearby properties were affected by the fire.

Detective Sergeant Pete Warne said: "This incident is an absolute tragedy, and first and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the person who has died."

"There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances to this fire, although we are conducting an investigation alongside the fire service on behalf of the Oxfordshire coroner."
