A man has been jailed for attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Andreas Hegedus, 24, of Burford Road, Witney, Oxfordshire, was jailed for six years at Oxford Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Hegedus forced entry into a property in Corn Street at about 17:00 BST on 29 December 2023, demanding money from the occupant.

He was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he threatened a woman in her twenties, with an imitation firearm.

Det Con Luke Bessant of Thames Valley Police said the incident had been "extremely distressing for the victim".

"She was awoken by Andreas Hegedus in the early hours of the morning and threatened with what she would have thought was a viable firearm," he said.

"I am pleased that with the weight of evidence against him, Andreas Hegedus pleaded guilty and has been jailed for six years."
