Shropshire Council jobs 'at risk' from £10m cuts

A council says jobs could be at risk as it starts to outline how it will cut £10m from its budget this year.

Shropshire Council said it would look at cutting staffing costs, review management roles and change staff terms and conditions.

It is facing funding cuts of up to £60m over the next three years and councillors will meet next Wednesday to discuss the details.

Keith Barrow, council leader, described the situation as "a challenge".

In March, the council said an estimated 1,300 jobs were expected to go over the next five years to offset cuts in public spending.

It is thought areas that will be hardest hit this year are transport, education and the house and planning delivery grant which is used to fund major planning inquiries and help smooth planning issues.
