Shrewsbury NSPCC children's centre to shut

The NSPCC is to close its children's centre in Shrewsbury.

The charity, which has about six staff members at the centre, has said it wants to concentrate its services in areas of "denser population".

A NSPCC spokeswoman said the decision to shut the centre in March was not due to funding issues.

It was decided Shrewsbury was not a suitable location, as it has a smaller population and is not as deprived as other areas, the spokeswoman said.

Sharon Copsey, of the NSPCC, said the decision was about being able to help more children.

"We have reviewed our current locations and we have agreed to move to areas with more dense population - fewer sites, but in larger centres where our services will be located in the future," she said.
