Shropshire schools given advice on asthma care

Primary schools in Shropshire are to receive instructions on how to support children with asthma after an audit found varying standards of care.
An audit of the county's 204 primary schools found that "the management of asthma in local schools varied greatly", the council said.
A document has been produced to help standardise the approach by schools and improve the care of pupils with asthma.
School nurses will help to ensure the new guidelines are implemented.
The council said: "Asthma is recognised to be one of the most common health problems of children and is potentially an extremely serious condition."
It said a crucial part of the correct treatment of a severe asthma attack was the use of a specialist volumatic spacer device.
Shropshire County Primary Care Trust has funded all schools in the county to receive these devices that help deliver medicine directly to the lungs.
