Shropshire electronics recycling scheme gets grant

  • Published

A grant of £30,000 has been awarded to Shropshire Council and two charities to encourage people to recycle more electronic equipment.

The government funding will go towards a project to increase the repair and reuse of electrical items.

It will also fund a new repair facility in Shrewsbury, which will train unemployed people.

The council will run the project with South Shropshire Furniture Scheme and Shropshire Housing Alliance.

Councillor John Hurst-Knight, deputy cabinet member for recycling at Shropshire Council, said: "A huge number of electrical items, such as televisions and stereos, are thrown away despite them being in working order or just needing some basic repairs."
