A Shropshire hospital has been used to test firefighters' readiness to tackle a major blaze later.

Firefighters from four stations reacted to a report of a major fire in an accommodation block at Shelton Hospital, Shrewsbury.

West Mercia Police also attended the exercise, which began at 19:00 GMT.

Crews from Shrewsbury, Minsterley, Bishops Castle and Baschurch were involved. Observers checked all levels of reaction to the emergency.

Neil Maguire, from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said before the exercise: "[It will] allow us to demonstrate the effective use of search and rescue procedures."
