Telford and Wrekin Council considers plans to save £20m

A Shropshire council will discuss plans later to make cuts of more than £20m to its budget for 2012/13.

The proposals include saving nearly £8m by "staff restructuring", including halving the number of senior managers and a "significant" reduction in the pay of senior officers.

Labour-controlled Telford and Wrekin Council faces a budget gap of £21,987,000.

Councillors will be asked to approve the plans in a meeting at 17:00 GMT.

A report to the council's cabinet said "difficult choices" needed to be made between further cuts to front-line services and keeping council tax rates low.

The council said 3,000 people contributed views and suggestions in a consultation about how the savings could be made.
