An annual Shropshire festival to "welcome the spring" has been cancelled due to the weather.

The Clun Green Man Festival, which attracts up to 6,000 visitors, celebrates the end of winter and was due to be held on Monday.

Established in 1204, the bank holiday event was last cancelled in 2001 due to foot and mouth disease.

Organisers said heavy rain meant fields usually used for parking were inaccessible.

Individual musical events due to take place in the town between 5 and 7 May will go ahead as planned, organisers added.
