Stanton river bridge closed for 'essential' work

A Shropshire bridge will be closed to traffic for up to a week for "essential" repairs.

The Stanton river bridge, across the River Roden near Shawbury, carries the Stanton-upon-Hine Heath to Moreton Corbet road.

A county council spokesman said work would be carried out on a section of the southern parapet that is damaged.

Traffic will be diverted via Shawbury and the A53. Pedestrians and cyclists will still have access over the bridge.

Shropshire Council's cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, Simon Jones, said: "This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

"It is appreciated that the bridge closure may cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible."
