Bishop's Castle town hall revamp gets lottery cash boost

The town hall in Bishop's Castle used to house the town's gaol
A project to restore the Grade II listed town hall in Bishop's Castle has received £676,800 in funding.
The money from Heritage Lottery Fund will be used to refurbish the 18th Century building and install a lift, and new heating and lighting.
The hall, which was built in 1750, houses the town council chamber, the clerk's office, coroner's court and a weekly market.
Project managers said they still needed to raise about £350,000 for the scheme.
Sam Hine from the project said: "I'm not quite popping the champagne corks yet, because we still have bids in with other funders to match that amount, but we're pretty confident.
"Over the next four to six weeks we should have our full funding package and should be ready to go.
"The people of Bishop's Castle have been working for about five or six years to get enough money to implement a full renovation of the town hall because it's such an iconic building," she added.
