Flood barriers to go up in Shrewsbury 'as precaution'

Flood barriers are due to go up in a Shropshire town as a precautionary measure, according to the Environment Agency (EA).

The EA told the BBC some defences would be put up on Sunday night in Shrewsbury. Flood alerts were issued for the River Severn and River Worfe.

West Midlands Ambulance said a number of people had been rescued from cars stuck in flood water.

The Met Office is to issue a yellow warning for Shropshire.

Nathan Hudson, from the ambulance service, has urged people not to drive through flood water as it risks the lives of members of the public and emergency service staff.
