Long Mynd gorse and grass fire tackled by 50 firefighters

Fifty firefighters have been tackling a large gorse and grass fire on a Shropshire hill.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews used hoses and beaters to tackle the fire on the Long Mynd.

A spokesperson said three fire sites had now been extinguished and that "excellent progress" was being made.

Crews from Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, and Telford have been tackling the fire.

Station manager Guy Williams said: "It has been dry for three or four weeks and we've got a strong wind here that will dry out the land.

"Fortunately the temperature is dropping and so the heat is going out of the ground with it."

He said the fire was now "contained" and the cause was being investigated.
