Georgia Williams: Friends raise £1,800 for memorial bench

Friends of Georgia Williams have raised more than £1,800 to fund a permanent memorial to the teenager.

The 17-year-old student went missing from her home in Wellington in Telford, Shropshire on 26 May.

Jamie Reynolds, 22, from Avondale Road, Wellington, appeared in court on Saturday charged with her murder.

Family friend Steve Millington said a bench could be put up in Haygate Park in Wellington, where friends held a tribute to her on Saturday.

He said: "I've been overwhelmed by people's generosity.

"I think it will be nice to have her immortalised, have something to remember her by that we can look at and go to.

"I set a deadline to raise £1,500 in 46 days and we've done that in two, so I'm leaving it open to get as much raised as possible to get the best tribute to her."

He said any remaining money would be given to charity.

Georgia was last seen by her parents on the evening of Sunday 26 May when she told them she was going to meet friends.

Police search teams found a girl's body in woodland near Wrexham on Friday. No formal identification has been made.

Mr Reynolds, 22, is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday.
