Artists are being invited to submit designs for a new piece of public art near the site of a Shropshire battle.

The artwork will stand on the roundabout on Vanguard Way, near the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury, which took place in 1403.

A budget of £15,000 is coming from waste contractors Veolia, who are developing the nearby Battlefield Energy Recovery Facility (ERF).

The artwork is scheduled to be completed by March next year.

The successful artist will have to work with local schools and other interested groups as part of the design process.

The ERF will use waste collected from households in Shropshire that is unsuitable for recycling and composting to make heat and power, instead of sending it to landfill.

Building work began on the £60m plant in 2012 and it is expected to be operational next year.
