Joshua Lloyd collapsed at The Telford Langley School in Shropshire on Friday, the ambulance service said
A boy who died after he collapsed at a school in Shropshire was a "lovely young man" with a "fabulous future ahead", his head teacher said.
Joshua Lloyd was found by paramedics in a critical condition at The Telford Langley School in Dawley on Friday at about 14:30 BST.
He was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital, where he died shortly after arriving.
His family described him as a joker who enjoyed bike rides and playing Xbox.
He also enjoyed spending time with his friends, they said.
Head teacher Steve Carter said Joshua was an excellent student.
He was charming, kind and popular with his classmates and staff and his life was "tragically cut short", he added.
"We cannot express just how much sympathy we feel for his family and friends at this time," Mr Carter said.
The death was not being treated as suspicious, West Mercia Police said.
Telford Langley is a mixed secondary school which has pupils aged 11 to 16.
