Problems with a hospital's generator that temporarily closed a women and children's unit have been resolved.

Princess Royal Hospital in Telford was not able to admit maternity patients, children or babies while specialist parts were sought for the faulty machine, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust said.

Patients were diverted to neighbouring hospitals.

Other services including the emergency department remained open.

Normal services had resumed after issues with the generator were successfully remedied, the trust said on Tuesday afternoon.

"We are sincerely sorry for the impact this has had on women and their families and thank them for their patience and understanding," a spokesperson said.

"We would also like to thank our valued staff, partners, as well as staff from neighbouring hospitals for the care and dedication they have continued to show to our service users throughout."
