A police station closed and an exclusion zone was put in place after a hand grenade from World War Two was handed in.
Malinsgate station in Telford was evacuated after the device was brought in and handed to staff at the front counter.
A 50m cordon was set up around the building and the nearby road was closed, West Mercia Police said.
Bomb disposal officers were called to the scene to assess the device.
It was found to be decommissioned and safe, the force has confirmed.
The police station has since re-opened.
