Letter calls for Telford defence event to be cancelled

Campaigners are urging a conference centre not to host a defence convention.
The Specialist Defence and Security Convention UK (SDSC-UK) is set to take place at the Telford International Centre (TIC) in November.
The Stop SDSC group said technology at the event was associated with destruction and disrespected people who had experienced armed conflict.
The TIC said it was a legitimate convention.
It had the involvement of the Ministry of Defence and had a right to be held, it said.
The letter asking the TIC to cancel the event was signed by individuals and organisations including PCS union (Telford branch), Shropshire Stand Up to Racism and Telford Quaker Meeting.
The event is described as a gathering of small to medium sized firms in the defence and security trade to share technology and other innovations.
"Many attendees to the Specialist Defence and Security Convention UK (SDSC-UK) have at some point risked their lives to uphold the principles of freedom and democracy around the world," the firm said.
"That is why we are committed to an open and constructive dialogue with anyone who has a view to express about our event."
