Tractors, farming equipment, and office buildings are going under the hammer after the closure of a well-known Shropshire donkey sanctuary.

Scotty's Donkeys and Animal Park shut last month after more than 10 years at Apley Estate near Shifnal.

It was run by Tony "Scotty" Scott and his daughter-in-law, who said the animals were being rehomed as their lease was not being renewed.

The auction is being held at The Animal Park Field, Bridgnorth Road, Norton.

The park was also home to llamas, rabbits and tortoises and Mr Scott said he was "very sad", having been forced to close because no suitable new location could be found.

The sanctuary had been on the estate for 11 years and offered children rides on the donkeys, which were also taken to visit people with dementia living in retirement homes.

Mr Scott also said seven people had lost their jobs as a result of the closure.

Auctioneers Halls said items for sale included livestock feeding, fencing, furniture and a trailer.

"It's sad that the animal park has had to close, resulting in this dispersal sale," said Jonny Dymond, Shrewsbury auction centre manager, said.

"It's a really interesting sale of everything from this much-loved animal sanctuary and park."
