Funds raised by the charity go towards buying new medical equipment at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

A charity that raises money for a hospital has said it is "desperate" for volunteers.

The League of Friends of Royal Shrewsbury Hospital runs four shops providing essentials for patients, the proceeds from which go to buying new medical equipment.

It has been providing support since 1966.

But Stan Courtney, who has been part of the charity for 15 years, said "we are a bit thin on the ground" for help.

He explained: "We are managing to keep all our four shops open but some times it is a bit of a wing and a prayer job and we could really do with some help to keep them going.

"I just feel a real sense of pride that what we do actually makes a difference.

"There must be people out there who were actually saved by the piece of equipment that the League of Friends, external provided."
