Telford: New dialysis hub opens to meet patient demand
- Published
A new dialysis hub has opened in a purpose-built new town centre hub to meet a hospital trust's demands.
Renal dialysis services provided from the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford have moved to the facility on Stafford Park.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) said the move would help them meet the current and future dialysis demand.
The PRH renal dialysis ward will now be converted back to an inpatient ward.
The new site is double the size of the previous one and will now provide more clinical space for both patients and staff as well as being more accessible, SaTH said.
The trust added the facility will provide care for lower risk dialysis patients, with acute services remaining at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Sara Biffen, acting chief operating officer at the site, said: "Moving renal dialysis services to such an ideal off-site location will create a better and more spacious environment within the community for patients to receive dialysis treatment."
Ms Biffen added that in the future the trust will also offer multi-disciplinary outpatient services for renal patients from the new site including podiatry, dermatology and transplant clinics.
