Ludlow Castle music events plan to be decided by council

The fate of eight music gigs at Ludlow Castle in the summer is set to be decided by Shropshire Council after a public consultation closed.

Organisers Future Sounds had originally applied for 15 events next year, but cut it down after opposition at a town council meeting this month.

Last July, Rag'n'Bone Man, Kaiser Chiefs, Nile Rogers, Chic and Bastille all played to crowds in the town.

Proposals for more events in Ludlow have split local opinion, however.

Local councillor Andy Boddington said while the majority of residents living around the castle opposed the plans, there was widespread support from local businesses and others across the town.

He said said he believed the revised application now represented the "right balance" for the town.

Planned events would take place in the summer, with about 7,000 people expected to attend on each day.

But there would be limits on noise, the length of the shows and end times.

Shropshire Council opened an application for comments during a public consultation period, which expired on 21 December, and licensing officers will now decide.
