The production becomes the most successful pantomime since the theatre opened

Ticket sales for a theatre's pantomime season have "smashed box office records".

Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury said its production of Jack and the Beanstalk had set a new attendance record.

More than 43,000 people had seen the show at the council-owned venue since it opened on 29 November.

It is officially the theatre's most successful pantomime since the theatre opened in 2009, the local authority said.

Evolution Productions had "outdone themselves" delivering 71 performances and bringing "high energy" to each show, said the council.

"In true theatre style the show must go on, and work is already underway to bring Sleeping Beauty to the theatre next winter," it added.
