A consultation over the plans runs until Wednesday

Infrastructure needed to support the building of thousands of homes in Shropshire will be considered by a planning inspector, a council says.

Telford and Wrekin Council is setting out a framework for development in the area, with a large number of potential sites identified.

A consultation on the draft Local Plan runs until Wednesday.

An accompanying plan will consider the need for new schools, roads and recreation, the council said.

Thousands of objections about sites proposed for housing in the area had been received by the council, said Peter Scott, ward member for Newport West.

Richard Overton said an infrastructure plan would be drawn up

"Many people are concerned that the extra influx of people into the borough will lead to a reduction in services that are already overstretched," he said at a full council meeting on Thursday.

Richard Overton, cabinet member for homes, said a "strong theme" from the consultation feedback was the need to provide infrastructure to support new development.

Mr Overton added that when the current consultation closed it would consider all the comments received and produce a infrastructure delivery plan.

This would be subject to examination by an independent planning inspector, he added.
