Rail company urged not to forget Wellington

A rail company which is bidding to bring back a direct service between Shropshire and London has been urged not to forget a town.
Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway said, external it was preparing to apply to the government to run the service.
Trains would stop at Gobowen, Shrewsbury, Telford, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Coleshill and Nuneaton.
But Telford and Wrekin Council said the omission of Wellington as a stop was "short-sighted".
The firm was approached for a response.
The authority did welcome the prospect of more rail services through the county from 2025.
However the councillor responsible for transport, Lee Carter, said: "Whilst more daily trains to London is a good thing it's shouldn't be to the detriment of Wellington."
He said there was a "clear case for Wellington" based on the 700,000 passengers a year who used the town's railway station before the pandemic.
The authority said the station was "already capable of accommodating the proposed new trains".
