Arrests as three men brawl over charity box in Shrewsbury

Police say the fight broke out over a charity box in Dogpole, Shrewsbury

Two men have been arrested following a brawl in a busy town centre over a charity box.

Officers were deployed to Dogpole in Shrewsbury at about 16: 45 GMT on Saturday to reports of fight between three men.

A 37-year-old and a 44-year-old were detained at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remain in custody.

West Mercia Police has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Insp Damien Kelly said: "This happened at a busy time of the day when there were families with young children around.

"We would like to reassure the public this was an isolated incident and that officers acted as quickly as possible to take control of the situation and make arrests."
