Plans to create new Market Drayton woodland space
- Published
Plans have been submitted to create a new community woodland space.
The proposals would see a new recreation area created off Buntingsdale Road in Market Drayton along with six car parking spaces.
The newly created woodland is intended to replace the area known locally as Damson Wood Walk, part of which is the intended site for a business park expansion.
The plans are due to be reviewed by Shropshire Council's planning team.
Healey Estate has brought forward the scheme as part of three development projects for a parcel of land near Tern Valley Business Park, with the first, outlining plans for three affordable houses.
A third application for a 8,932 sq m (96,143 sq ft) extension of the business park is expected to follow.
"The new open space will provide exciting opportunities for formal public access to the riverbank, and ancient trees," the applicants said.
Community campaigners from the "Save Damson Wood" group vowed to fight the proposed scheme for the site, claiming the plans put forward by developers would result in an "unacceptable" loss of woodland for the area.
