Man seriously injured after being hit by lorry on A53

A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with what police said were "life threatening injuries" after being hit by a lorry.

West Mercia Police said it happened on the A53 in Shawbury, Shropshire at about 04:00 GMT on Wednesday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the pedestrian was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital after receiving treatment at the scene.

The police have made an appeal for witnesses to the collision.
