South Somerset and East Devon manager share plan halted

The plan for South Somerset and East Devon district councils to share managers has been put on hold.

The two councils have shared a chief executive since April.

This was meant to be followed by the top four tiers of managers at the two councils also merging but talks towards that have now been postponed.

The partnership was originally expected to save South Somerset council £1.25m per year but further investigations found this was not the case.

South Somerset District Council said it was already saving £96,000 per year by having a joint chief executive.

A council report said in light of the government's spending review, it now wants to see how much money it can save internally before continuing with East Devon.
