Turnip Prize judges praised artist Doug Pitt's lack of ambition

The winner of the annual Turnip Prize, awarded for art which requires as little effort and talent as possible, has gone to "Chilli n'Minors".

Turnip Prize organisers call themselves the "antidote" to the Turner Prize, announcing the winner on the same day in a pub in Wedmore, Somerset.

"Chilli n'Minors" by "Doug Pitt" - no more than a large chilli and three smaller chillies - beat 68 rivals.

"It's art of the lowest standard," said organiser Trevor Prideaux.

'That's not art'

He added: "It aimed low and just kept going."

This year's winner of the Turner Prize is Glasgow-born Susan Philipsz. She won with three versions of a Scottish folk song played into an empty room.

"That's not art," said Mr Prideaux. "That's called 'music'."

Each year the winning Turnip Prize entry is auctioned, with the money raised going to childhood bereavement charity Winston's Wish.
