Weston-super-Mare library to move to town hall

Plans for a £9.8m refurbishment of Weston-super-Mare's town hall will see the town's public library moved there.

A North Somerset Council spokesman said the existing library building on The Boulevard is short of space and would soon require significant investment.

The upper floor of the town hall will also be upgraded to house 900 people - 50% more than presently work there.

The Register Office and Home Choice letting service would both move in from their current Dolphin Square base.

The town hall refurbishment is part of plans to cut the number of buildings the authority occupies.

It says by cutting its office estate from 18 to two it can achieve savings of £700,000 in three years.

Councillors will consider recommendations to award the construction contract to Willmott Dixon Construction Limited at a meeting on 15 March.
