Fears over potential plans for second Cheddar reservoir

Residents in Axbridge, Somerset, say they are concerned about plans for a new reservoir in the area.

Bristol Water's future plan outlined the possibility of constructing a second reservoir near Cheddar.

The idea was proposed as an alternative to combat a predicted growth in water use.

Farm owner, Liz Scott, challenged the lack of public correspondence so far. Bristol Water said a new reservoir could be a "major tourist attraction".

Ms Scott said: "Everybody here would like to know what their intentions are."

She said she was concerned local residents would not have "much of a input" in any decision that was taken.

Jeremy Williams, from Bristol Water, said building a new reservoir could bring economic benefits to the area.

He added: "It could be a major tourist attraction."

He said that a full public consultation would be carried out once the possible sites for a reservoir were narrowed down.
