Biogas plant near Bridgwater to treat more food waste

  • Published

A biogas facility in Somerset has been given permission to treat more food waste from across the South West.

Cannington Enterprises Ltd in Spaxton, near Bridgwater, has been awarded a licence by Somerset County Council and the Environment Agency.

The company uses an anaerobic digester to produce power from the gas given off by rotting food.

A company spokesman said they would now be able to treat up to 75,000 tonnes of a "broader range" of food waste.
