Harry Patch memorial at Bath care home

Harry Patch fought at the third battle of Ypres and was injured by a shell in September 1917

A care home in Bath is to dedicate a memorial in its grounds to the late First World War veteran Harry Patch.

The Woodside Care Home where Mr Patch's niece is a resident, is staging a ceremony attended by the Royal British Legion county chairman, Major Rikki Peters MBE.

Mr Patch, who died aged 111 in 2009 was the last surviving British soldier to have fought in the conflict.

He was born in 1898 in Combe Down and spent most of his life in Bath.

He died at Fletcher House care home in Wells, Somerset, on 25 July, 2009.
