The club hopes to host international matches at the ground

Somerset County Cricket Club is set to be loaned £1m to redevelop the ground.

A scrutiny committee at Taunton Deane Borough Council agreed in principle to give the club the money.

If the full council backs the decision, the money would be used to replace the old pavilion with a new media centre, corporate facilities and seating.

Last month the club was granted category B status to allow it to bid for future international matches in Taunton.
