Somerset floods: A361 road reopens
- Published
A main road in Somerset which was closed after it was severely flooded has reopened.
The A361 was closed for four weeks between East Lyng and Burrowbridge following heavy rainfall last month.
The road, which connects Taunton and Glastonbury, was flooded with 2ft (0.6m) of water. It left drivers with a 15-mile (24km) detour.
It was closed for several days after the water had left the surface to allow the foundations to dry.
The Environment Agency embarked on its "biggest ever" pumping operation to remove water from the Levels and Moors.
To add to the 20 permanent stations, the organisation brought in 16 extra pumps to help disperse the water, at a rate of 10 tonnes per second.
