Avon and Somerset Police's share of council tax bills frozen

The amount of money Avon and Somerset Police receives from council tax bills is set to be frozen for 2013/14.

A meeting of the police and crime panel on Wednesday will hear that £7m of savings already made will ensure there will be no new cuts to frontline staff.

But a report warns that further cuts will be needed or more money found from 2014.

Both the PCC, Sue Mountstevens, and police bosses will be looking at ways to balance the 2014/5 budget.

The meeting of the Police and Crime Panel takes place at North Somerset Council's Castlewood Offices in Clevedon on 6 February at 10:30 GMT.

Members will be asked to approve the force budget and police precept - the proportion of the council tax bill which goes towards police services.

In previous years the precept would have been set by the now defunct police authority.

Its role has been superseded by the police and crime panel who now have the power to veto the PCC's precept decision.
