Flood defences sent from Essex to Somerset

Ten workers from Essex arrived in Burrowbridge to put up flood defences

Temporary flood defences have been sent by an Essex company to Somerset.

Three hundred tonnes of sand turned up in lorries in Burrowbridge in the flood-hit county at 04:00 GMT and workers have filled giant sandbags.

Roger Patey from the firm UK Flood Defences said he was waiting for the Environment Agency to advise where it would like the bags to be placed.

The Met Office earlier warned of heavy rain in the already flooded Somerset Levels.

UK Flood Defences' sandbags will act as a barrier against the water.

The sand has been left on farmland in the nearby village of Moorland ready to be used.
