Police and ambulances were called to the school at about 13:45 GMT on Monday

A 15-year-old schoolboy injured during an argument at school was "slashed with a knife", police have said.

A number of children at Worle Community School in Weston-super-Mare were involved in the dispute before the victim was struck.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital but has been discharged, Avon and Somerset police said.

Two 15-year-old boys remain in custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Det Sgt Martin Longden said inquiries are continuing and police are liaising closely with the school.

Officers are at the school to provide reassurance and address any further concerns.

"This is an isolated occurrence and violent offences like this one are extremely rare," said Det Sgt Longden.
