Heavy rainfall leaves Somerset Levels severely flooded

The Somerset Levels is a coastal plain that extends across the county
A coastal plain and surrounding roads have been submerged in water after a bout of severe flooding.
Heavy rainfall over the festive period has caused flooding across The Somerset Levels and roads around the nearby village of Muchelney, near Langport, have been closed.

Emergency flood gates have been activated across the county after a car was left stranded in flood water

Somerset Highways is urging drivers not to drive through the flood water as it can be extremely dangerous

Cutts Road, in Bridgwater, New Road, near Cheddar and Langport Road, in Somerton, have been closed due to flooding




Wet conditions are expected to continue across the county over the next few days
