M5 traffic: Northbound carriageway reopens after crash
- Published
A motorcyclist is in a serious condition in hospital after a serious crash with a car on the M5.
Emergency services were called to the motorway near Bridgwater at around 10:30 BST.
The northbound carriageway was closed for several hours between J24 and J23 while police carried out an investigation into the collision.
The motorway has now fully reopened but the incident left around 11 miles of congestion, National Highways said.
Avon and Somerset Police said it was called after the crash between a silver BMW 1 Series and a black Triumph motorbike about half a mile before the J23 exit.
The southbound carriageway was shut for a short time while the air ambulance attended to take the motorcyclist to hospital.
Police would like to hear from any motorists who witnessed the incident.
Elsewhere, the M4 was shut near Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire earlier after a coach fire.
One lane is still shut for repair work.
