Plans unveiled for 650 new homes off A303 in Wincanton

Hundreds of new homes have been proposed as part of a major expansion of a small Somerset market town.
A total of 650 houses are proposed for the "West Wincanton" development next to the A371 at Lawrence Hill.
The development would see Wincanton expand dramatically, with a new school, commercial space and a care home all part of the plans.
Developers Land Value Alliances and Origin3 have begun a public consultation on the proposals.
If it gets the go ahead, the development would be built on current farmland on the town's western edge, which borders the A303, the A371 and the already planned development for 80 homes west of Crockers Way.
Two new road junctions would be created - one on West Hill at the northern end of the site and another providing southern access onto Lawrence Hill.
A previous plan for 210 homes on part of the site was refused by councillors in 2020.
With the latest plan, developers have said 35% of the homes would be affordable.
A spokesperson said: "These plans will lead to increased footfall and spending in the town for local shops and businesses."
"New jobs will be created during the construction and more jobs will be made from the new employment area.
"The existing public footpaths will be retained, with new footpaths and cycle paths being provided, including a new segregated cycle route adjacent to Lawrence Hill and improved access into Wincanton town centre."
Local residents have until 20 October to have their say before formal plans are submitted to Somerset Council early next year.
