Man dies after house fire breaks out near Castle Cary

A man has died after a house fire broke out in a Somerset town.

Avon and Somerset Police say they were called with the fire service to a house in Alhampton, near Castle Cary, at 8:20 GMT on Monday.

A spokesperson said: "There had been a fire at a residential property and sadly one man was pronounced deceased at the scene."

They added that work to determine the fire's cause was ongoing and the man's next of kin had been informed.
