Peter Jeffery entered the water from the jetty at Burnham-on-Sea to rescue a woman and her dog
A body has been found in the water off a small island in the Bristol channel.
Officers were informed by HM Coastguard at 16:30 GMT on Sunday that a body had been spotted near Stert Island off Burnham-on-Sea.
While formal identification has not yet taken place, it comes two weeks after a man was swept out to sea while trying to help a woman and her dog.
The body was recovered with the help of the RNLI, the coastguard and BARB Search and Rescue.

A major search was launched to find Mr Jeffery
The family of Peter Jeffery, who entered the sea on 29 October, has been informed, police said.
In a statement released by his family last week, they said "he always put others first" and would be greatly missed by all.
Avon and Somerset Police said a file will now be prepared for the coroner.
